Christ reveals a suffering woman's faith

William Hendriksen revealed the following principle: "When blessings descend from heaven, they must in the form of thanksgiving be returned to heaven by those who received them. Thus the circle is completed."1

When God blesses us, he expects us to thank him.

Mark 5:30-34

Immediately Jesus, perceiving in himself that the power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd, and asked, “Who touched my clothes?” 31His disciples said to him, “You see the multitude pressing against you, and you say, ‘Who touched me?’”
32He looked around to see her who had done this thing. 33But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done to her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. 34He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be cured of your disease.”

Jesus asked who touched him in order to draw this woman out. The woman fearfully confessed her action. Jesus did not rebuke her. He reassured her, commended her faith, and gave her a blessing of peace.

Luke 8:45-46

Jesus said, “Who touched me?”
When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, “Master, the multitudes press and jostle you, and you say, ‘Who touched me?’” 46But Jesus said, “Someone did touch me, for I perceived that power has gone out of me.”

Matthew 9:22

But Jesus, turning around and seeing her, said, “Daughter, cheer up! Your faith has made you well.” And the woman was made well from that hour.

One may ask, "Was this healing power transferred without Jesus’ consent?"" Being God in the flesh, that is unlikely. The moment when the woman was healed, Jesus knew. He also knew who she was because he was God's son. God knew the answers when he asked, “Where are you?”, and, “Where is Abel your brother?” (Genesis 3:9, 4:9).

Because she was full of faith, this woman became an example of faith to others. After this event, people begged to touch the fringe of Jesus’ garment, and were healed (Mark 6:56, Matthew 14:36).
