Teachings of Christ
Introduction
John 3:16 in Sports
Key Words
For God so loved
More to come...

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. - John 3:16 (NKJV)

Key Words in John 3:16
Love is one of the key words found in John. In fact, John 3:16 contains 4 of the 7 key-words found in John's writings:
  • Love
  • World
  • Son
  • Believe
  • Life
The other key words are "Father" and "Light," though they do not appear in this verse.

Emphasis Through Key Word Repetition
Inspired Bible writers did not have word processors and web publishing tools to emphasize words with italicized, bold, large, and colored fonts. To emphasize points they repeated key words.

John on Love
The Apostle John writes more fully on love in 1 John 4. So you can better see how word repetition in the Bible works, the keyword "love" appears in bold text below. This is 1st John 4:7-12 (NIV), which emphasizes God's love.

Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

The word "love" appears in that passage 13 times. The book of 1st John has even more references to love.
When you read the Bible, pay special attention to words that are repeated. Word repetition is deliberately employed by Bible writers for emphasis.
